The VenaSeal ™ Procedure

The latest alternative to vein stripping and previous vein ablation procedures

VenaSeal ™ is the newest, state-of-the-art, office procedure for treatment of venous disease and varicose veins. This recently FDA -approved procedure is the updated version of the VNUS Closure™ (ClosureFast™ ) and endovenous laser therapy (EVLT) techniques. It is now covered by multiple 3rd party insurance carriers including Medicare.

Its major advantages are that it does not require multiple painful injections of local anesthesia, allows return to work and unrestricted activity immediately, and often does not require compression stockings after treatment.

What is involved?
We identify the abnormal vein with ultrasound and cleanse the leg. Only one single injection of local anesthesia is required to numb the treatment area. A small catheter is painlessly advanced into the vein using ultrasound guidance. Small amounts of medical adhesive are injected sequentially along the vein. It is sealed immediately and without discomfort. Blood is rerouted to healthy veins and the body absorbs the now, inactive vein so you no longer suffer from symptoms previously associated with it.
The procedure was invented to replace  procedures requiring thermal or heat energy, avoiding the discomfort associated with cauterization of the vein  that requires multiple needle injections for anesthesia along the entire vein. Further, there is no risk of thermal/heat injury to surrounding structures with this procedure.

Postprocedure Care:
Following the procedure, we cover the catheter injection site with a paper tape or Band-Aid. A light compression wrap is sometimes utilized but not always necessary. You can go back to full activities immediately without restriction.

What Are The Results?
In addition to feeling better, you can also expect excellent cosmetic results. This technology has a 95-percent success rate in achieving vein closure.
